Global Expertise + Local Focus = Success Formula for Dynamic World of Mobility

July 17, 2024

In today’s quickly evolving world of mobility, speed, flexibility and collaboration are essential to designing, producing and selling vehicles that are safe and appeal to a wide range of consumers across competitive markets.

At Nexteer, we have a long, proven history of collaborating with our OEM customers and acting as extensions of their engineering teams and helping them overcome challenges, accelerate speed-to-market and differentiate their vehicles.

Our global team of engineers are co-located across five technical centers so they can collaborate globally but also serve local customer needs in region – we call this our “Glocal” approach. This enables us to tap into the extensive knowledge and experience within our global pool of experts, while also providing localized support to OEMs to quickly respond to their unique in-market needs.

At the global level, all our technical centers are equipped to provide customers with:

  • Industry-leading, innovative steering, driveline and software solutions
  • Proven technology building blocks and manufacturing processes
  • Expert guidance to achieve their engineering and software goals
  • Proactive partnership, seamless vehicle integration and efficient project management

At the local level, our technical centers focus on the business needs of their region with a goal to enhance agility, speed, customer and market responsiveness, product and process architecture, and research and development (R&D). They are each equipped with the necessary resources to drive efficient and effective business decisions, while also assessing best practices to support global alignment. We also continuously assess and – as needed – rebalance our engineering resources to reflect the overall needs of our global customer base and optimize for cost and efficiency.

Growing Our Technical Centers to Better Serve Our Customers

To support our technical centers in providing the best service to their local – and in turn, global – customers, we’ve grown capabilities and strengths around the world. Here are some of our recent updates:

Asia Pacific Technical Center (APTC): Suzhou & Changshu, China

To meet growing demand from both global and domestic OEM customers in China and AP, we are increasing our manufacturing and testing capacity by expanding our footprint into Changshu near our existing facilities in Suzhou. The new location will produce electric power steering (EPS) systems, as well as include state-of-the-art testing and validation labs and an on-site test track. The Changshu production and testing facilities are expected to be operational in early 2025.

EMEASA Technical Center (EUTC): Tychy, Poland

We recently upgraded our engineering facility at our EUTC to strengthen its technological capabilities and infrastructure. The expansion incorporates mechanical, electrical and software development; a prototype shop; advanced testing and validation; and training. It also includes a test track and facility for NVH testing, validation facilities and virtual engineering capabilities.

Mexico Technical Center (MXTC): Querétaro, Mexico

In March, we broke ground on the new facility for our technical center in Mexico, which is expected to be complete in 2026. Its local engineering capabilities will improve responsiveness, efficiency and quality for OEM customers in Mexico and will include a test track for NVH testing; state-of-the-art prototype, validation and NVH facilities; and virtual engineering.

United States Technical Center (USTC): Saginaw, Michigan, US

As our most established technical center, the USTC has a proven track record of offering our customers agility, responsiveness, quality and value through our in-house ownership of R&D, design, testing, validation and manufacturing. Along with a robust test track, the USTC also includes facilities for prototyping, NVH and validation, as well as virtual engineering capabilities.

India Technical Center (INTC): Bengaluru, India

In May, our INTC expanded its office space to better foster collaboration, creativity and innovation to meet our customers’ growing needs. The INTC supports our other divisional technical centers with a focus on software production, virtual engineering, cybersecurity and R&D.

Our commitment to our customers and culture of relentless innovation are consistent across all five technical centers – so OEMs around the world can expect the same level of motion control expertise, collaboration and quality from Nexteer wherever they operate.

As the automotive industry faces monumental challenges related to electrification, connectivity, automation and more, we aim to support our customers every step of the way – providing them with motion control solutions that accelerate future mobility to be safe, green and exciting.
