Nexteer Automotive Employees and Covenant HealthCare Donate Hundreds of Shoes to Local Students through “Shoes That Fit” Program

SAGINAW, Mich. – Dec. 15, 2016 – Nexteer Automotive employees partnered with Covenant HealthCare and the Breakfast of Champions Men’s Club to donate 306 new pairs of shoes to underprivileged students in Buena Vista Charter Township as part of the Shoes That Fit program.

Over the past eight years, Nexteer employees and the Breakfast of Champions Men’s Club, have provided more than 2,500 pairs of new shoes to students in need. Covenant Healthcare joined as a major sponsor for the 2016 season, sharing the cost of purchasing the shoes. Meijer and Means Industries also sponsored this year’s “Shoes That Fit”, contributing additional monetary support toward the purchase of shoes. Nexteer and Covenant employees distributed the shoes to students in Buena Vista at the Claytor Head Start on December 14 and Brunkow Head Start on December 15.

“By partnering this year with Covenant HealthCare, we have broadened our ability to provide quality, new shoes to children in the Saginaw community,” said Myiesha Smith, corporate affairs specialist, Nexteer Automotive. “With this year’s donation, we have provided more than 2,500 shoes to children in need. Due to tough economic circumstances, these children would otherwise be going without.”

The Breakfast of Champions Men’s Club started the local chapter of Shoes That Fit as a grassroots initiative in 2009 to bring a boost of self-esteem to local students and in effect focus on studies rather than circumstances. Founded by Dwayne Parker and Greg Carter, the civic-minded club is dedicated to advancing Buena Vista Charter Township.

“Nexteer employees have a strong passion to do good in the communities in which they live,“ said Smith. “The continued involvement of our team members in the Shoes That Fit program demonstrates a lasting community commitment through improving the lives of local youth. This initiative is one of many collaborative relationships that Nexteer participates in to make a positive difference for others.”

In 2015, Nexteer employees volunteered nearly 9,200 hours of time supporting charitable efforts in local communities. Total global donations and charitable contributions totaled approximately $600,000.
