CHONGQING, China – October 26, 2016 – Nexteer Automotive, a global leader in intuitive motion control, held a grand opening ceremony today at its newest manufacturing plant in Chongqing’s Jiangjin District. In response to increased market demand, the facility will manufacture brush and brushless varieties of column assist electric power steering (CEPS) and intermediate shafts for Chinese and global customers.
The plant is purposefully located to efficiently serve Nexteer customers in central and western China, with products readily available to Nexteer’s array of global customers. The plant is equipped with an independent measurement lab to meet various customer needs.
“The opening of this plant represents a tangible example of Nexteer’s plan for profitable and balanced global growth.” said Mike Richardson, Nexteer president and executive board member. “As Nexteer Automotive has committed itself to better serving the Chinese automotive market, we have entered into this joint venture to better support the local manufacturing base with Nexteer’s leading technology.”
The facility, known as Chongqing Nexteer Steering System Co., Ltd., is co-funded by Nexteer Automotive and Chongqing Jianshe Industry. The 86,000 square foot facility, located in Degan Industrial Park, is scheduled to grow its workforce to 700 by 2021 as Chinese automakers continue the conversion from hydraulic power steering to advanced electric power steering.
