SAGINAW, Mich. – April 15, 2024 – Today, Nexteer Automotive kicked off its “Generation Next: Embedded Coding Competition 2024” for high school students graduating in 2024 or 2025. This annual competition aims to recognize, support and inspire talented future software engineers. This year’s competition focuses on creating an embedded controller that can solve challenges based upon specific requirements and processes. Five winners will be announced on June 27 and will each be awarded a four-year scholarship worth $2,000 per year, along with a co-op / internship offer at Nexteer’s United States Technical Center (USTC) in Saginaw.
“Nexteer has always had a strong commitment to supporting STEM educational opportunities in our local communities, so creating this coding competition was a natural extension of that commitment to help recognize, support and inspire future talented software engineers in Michigan. With the automotive industry moving toward software-defined vehicles, developing a talented workforce of future software engineers will be critical to advancing the safety, performance and convenience of future mobility,” said Lonnie Newton, Sr. Embedded Software Engineering Manager at Nexteer Automotive and co-founder of Nexteer’s Generation Next: Embedded Coding Competition. “I’m extremely excited about Nexteer’s impact on the community through our Generation Next: Embedded Coding Competition, which in the first two years has resulted in 10 internships and $80,000 in scholarships being awarded to local high school students.”
