SAGINAW, Mich. – July 22, 2016 – Nexteer Automotive, a leader in intuitive motion control, held its first Global Service Day on July 15 to support education and environmental activities, and serve communities across four continents: North America, South America, Europe and Asia. This was the first of what will be an annual event to serve the communities in which Nexteer has a major presence.
“Our Global Service Day is a coordinated team effort among many Nexteer employees, our families, partner organizations and charities,” said Luis Canales, director, Global Corporate Affairs, Nexteer Automotive. “This gives us a chance to give back to our communities where we work and raise our children. It’s also rewarding to see the impact we can make – together around the world – in just 24 hours across five time zones.”
Over the course of the day 394 volunteers from Nexteer’s global workforce contributed 1,324 hours to support local initiatives:
Saginaw, Michigan, USA – The Nexteer team cleaned up and performed playground equipment maintenance at Saginaw’s St. Vincent’s Park and adjacent municipal lots. Fifty volunteers spent a total of 240 hours onsite at the park.
Querétaro, Mexico – Eighty Nexteer team members spent 320 hours revitalizing a local San Clemente kindergarten’s playground, library, facility as well as training for teachers.
Tychy, Poland and Porto Alegre, Brazil – Thirty Nexteer team members spent 280 combined hours raising awareness and funds for local children’s charities. The volunteers encouraged STEM-related careers with hands-on activities, including a test track event in Poland.
Suzhou, Liuzhou, Wuhu & Zhouzhou, China and Bangalore, India – Nexteer team members in China and India cleaned up and performed facility maintenance in multiple parks and public areas, with an emphasis on recycling. The Chinese team of 102 volunteers spent 204 hours among various locations and 127 volunteers in India dedicated 280 hours to community improvement.
